Join the National Academy of Sciences for the public briefing on a new report: A Decision Framework for Interventions to Increase the Persistence and Resilience of Coral Reefs.

Increasing greenhouse gas emissions are changing the ocean and coral reef ecosystems along with it: corals are experiencing increases in bleaching and disease, and a reduced ability to grow their hardened reef skeletons. Existing approaches for managing coral reefs are not designed to address these impacts from climate change. A growing toolbox of “coral interventions” are meant to increase coral persistence in a degraded environment, but are largely untested at meaningful scales. How do we evaluate their potential risks, benefits, and suitability for using on a particular reef, compared to taking no additional action?
