The U.S. military protects its critical assets against a diverse range of threats. They include cyber attack, nuclear EMP, Solar EMP, physical attack, and electronic warfare. That means that actors such as China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, ISIS, Al Qaeda, and even solar weather are concerns when it comes to making sure that critical components of American defense have the power supplies necessary to function.
This symposium will explore the path from today’s vulnerabilities to tomorrow’s mitigations for the civilian electrical grid from major system failures and long-term power outages. How vulnerable are we to catastrophic level black outs? What does that mean for the major power consumers of the civilian electrical grid?
