Despite the headlines of gridlock on Capitol Hill, in the first year of the Trump Administration, Congress has passed an overhaul to the U.S. tax code, set federal spending levels for 2017 and 2018, and is currently debating priorities for 2018 that will shape the future of energy policy in the United States. Additionally, as lawmakers are crafting their responses to a variety of Trump administration priorities on energy and environment issues; key priorities could sneak into moving legislation, and lawmakers may press agencies to take action under existing authorities. As they deal with a busy calendar, members are looking forward to the November midterm elections and how those could potentially change the energy debate.
