As a result of community solar legislation passed by the Maryland General Assembly a couple of years ago, Nautilus Solar, a solar developer is building a large 5 MW solar system on an old closed landfill in southern Prince George’s County near Fort Washington.

Neighborhood Sun, a local solar company is a project partner and tasked with getting up to 900 community subscribers in the Maryland PEPCO service area.  People who choose to become subscribers can claim electricity generated from a certain number of solar panels in the huge solar array at the landfill. Instead of paying PEPCO for electric, a subscriber pays the developer and at a rate that is 5% less the utility’s billing for the same amount of electricity.
