Rock Creek Extreme Cleanup

Each spring, Rock Creek Conservancy organizes the Rock Creek Extreme Cleanup, with trash cleanups in more than 75 locations along the 33-mile length of Rock Creek, both in Montgomery County, MD and Washington, DC. The Conservancy works closely with the National Park Service and Montgomery County Parks to have thousands of volunteers help clean up Rock Creek and its tributaries, the parks connected to Rock Creek, and the neighborhoods near Rock Creek where trash originates. This is the 10th year of this event, and in the past nine years, volunteers have collected a combined total of over 17,000 trash bags full of litter, 80 tons of junk, 910 tires, and 40,000 plastic bags.

The Extreme Cleanup is part of the Alice Ferguson Foundation’s annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup, which occurs in four states and the District of Columbia in April.
