The Global America Business Institute (GABI) seeks to advance awareness and proficiency in global affairs, with a focus on energy and energy policy issues. On September 21st, GABI is hosting a special workshop on the prospects for advanced nuclear technologies.

Advanced nuclear technologies have the potential for considerable improvements in flexibility, safety, security, non-proliferation, and waste management over conventional light water reactors. Nevertheless, concerns remain regarding the ultimate commercial viability and competitiveness of these next-generation reactor technologies. Therefore, careful and comprehensive investigations into the estimated costs and probable risks of these technologies are necessary, not only to inform investment and technical development decisions, but also equip policymakers with a better understanding of the relevant factors so that the proper policies and incentives can be implemented to more effectively manage probable challenges and encourage innovation in this critical area.
