Join us on Friday, March 23rd at Pansaari and Saturday March 24th at the Thurgood Marshall center for an engaging and interactive event to network and learn about the leading solutions for safeguarding our planet’s soil and food systems.
Day 1: Food Workshop
Friday 23rd, 7pm-9pm
An interactive evening with Pansaari owner and chef Rano Singh. You will learn how to cook healthy, affordable, and delicious Indian meals by using local produce and the whole vegetable. Local farmers will join the discussion on sustainable and healthy food systems.

Day 2: Conference
Saturday 24th, 9am – 5pm
The full day covers a varied program of inspirational speeches, panel discussions, breakout activities, delicious food and most importantly fun! Topics include sustainable agriculture, good food policies, food waste, healthy soils, holistic managements and much more.

- Kelly Hodgins – Program Coordinator at the Feeding 9 Billion at the University of Guelph. The Feeding 9 Billion Challenge is an exciting 24-hour event taking place in universities across Canada. It challenges undergraduate students to work in teams to develop innovative projects fostering a more sustainable food system. A shorter version will take place with the participation of the attendees at our event.
- Daniel Schwartz – Soil Scientist at Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District for the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District
- Jason Rowntree – Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Science, Beef Cattle and Forage Utilization at the Michigan State University. He is a scientific advisor and an accredited Holistic Management Educator for the Savory Institute and is an advisor of Standard Soil.
- Phyllis Van Amburgh – Farmer, Dharma Lea, passionate organic farmer and grass fed pioneers.
- Meredith Shepherd – Founder and CEO of Love&Carrots, a non-profit organization which promotes urban farming in DC
- John Cosgrove – Owner of Ecocaters, a locally Sourced Organic Catering & Event Design in the DC area
- Shana Muhammad – Marketing Director of Glen’s Garden Market, environmentally friendly grocery store showcasing locally sourced products.
About the conference
Our Task designed the annual Earth 2100 Conference as a dynamic and interactive knowledge-exchange space for thoughtful, civil, intergenerational dialogue to take place on global issues that young people will confront over the course of their lives.
This year’s dialogue focuses on soil and food. Our aim is to answer the following two questions:
- What role does soil play in ensuring a sustainable future for our children and grandchildren?
- Can enough food be produced to feed an estimated population of 10 billion by 2100?
Special exhibitionists include food artists, sustainability chefs, and more to offer attendees new perspectives on soil and food protection, and how art, video, local initiatives and other creative mediums can help inform the public about the interconnectivity between soil, food, and culture. The goal is to inspire them to become a powerful voice on sustainability and lead the change towards a sustainable planet for their own and future generations.
For an environment-friendly conference, please bring our own plate, mug, and utensils for lunch and coffee. Rent will be 1$ per piece.
